DEI in Compliance, Legal And Risk Recruitment

Diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) has moved from a nice-to-have to a genuine business imperative. This is especially true across financial and professional services. Compliance, Financial Crime, Legal and Risk all depend on trust, judgement and reputation. As a result, building diverse teams isn’t just the right thing to do. In fact, it’s a measurable driver of better outcomes.

The Business Case for DE&I

The data speaks for itself. Inclusive teams are over 35% more productive. In addition, top-quartile diverse companies are up to 36% more likely to outperform on profitability (McKinsey, Diversity Wins). Firms are competing hard to attract senior compliance, legal and risk talent. Because of this, a genuine commitment to DE&I is increasingly a deciding factor for candidates. It’s no longer just an afterthought.

At Danos Group, 75% of the candidates we’ve placed under a diversity-focused brief have stayed with our clients for more than three years. This is a clear signal. Inclusive hiring isn’t just about representation, it’s also about retention.

How Danos Group Champions DE&I

As a specialist recruitment and consultancy firm, we take our responsibility seriously. This applies both internally and in every search we run for clients. For example, our Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee leads DE&I initiatives across our global offices. It was launched in 2020. Its work ranges from monthly internal education sessions to our annual World Cultural Food Day, which celebrates the backgrounds and cultures across our team.

We also take an active role beyond our own walls. For instance, our Pathway To Success interview series has featured senior leaders across Compliance, Financial Crime, Legal and Risk. Meanwhile, our webinar programme has connected over 500 DE&I experts with senior HR, Compliance, Legal and Risk professionals across the industry.

Our Approach to Inclusive Hiring

Every search we run is approached with diversity, equity and inclusion in mind. Specifically, that means:

  • Blind recruitment: removing names, ages, and other identifying details from applications
  • Diverse interview panels: reducing shared bias and giving candidates a more rounded experience
  • Bias-aware job specifications: small wording changes, like adding flexible hours, can shift applications from underrepresented groups by up to 40%
  • Ongoing monitoring: tracking diversity data and attrition trends so we can set targets and measure real progress
